Cala Ratjada awaits you

Cala Ratjada is a town in the municipality of Capdepera, within the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. It is located at the northeastern tip of the island of Mallorca, approximately 80 kilometers from the capital, Palma de Mallorca. It is the main coastal port and the most developed area of the Capdepera district.

Cala Ratjada is a well-established tourist resort and ranks among the island’s most important destinations. It is especially popular with German tourists, giving the area a strong international reputation with a predominance of this market.

Tourism began to develop in the 1960s. Prior to that, Cala Ratjada was a small fishing port. The original harbor still remains, although today it serves mainly as a tourist and leisure port.

Cala Ratjada is the closest point between Mallorca and Menorca, which has given it an important role in the island’s economy over the years. On clear days, it is possible to see Menorca and the city of Ciutadella from here.

This area of Mallorca is famous for its rugged coastline and numerous coves. The municipality of Capdepera boasts around 40 kilometers of spectacular coastline, with many beaches awarded the Blue Flag by the European Foundation for Environmental Education, reflecting their cleanliness and quality services.

Nearby beaches include La Pedruscada, Son Moll, Cala Ratjada, Cala Gat, L’Olla, Cala Lliteres, Cala Agulla, and Cala Moltó.

In addition to its beaches, highlights include the marina, where some fishing activity still takes place, the Capdepera Lighthouse, and the Palacio March, owned by the March family.

According to the 2008 census, Cala Ratjada had 6,124 residents, although the population increases significantly during the summer.

The municipality has 78 hotels offering a total of 15,528 beds, including the areas of Font de la Cala, Canyamel, Cala Gat, and Cala Mesquida. Together, these tourist areas are known as First Sun Mallorca, referring to the municipality’s easternmost position on the island.
